Hengchun means “Constant Spring” in English, and after a few days here, you begin to understand why this is! The weather this week was mostly warm and sunny, even though it is currently winter in Taiwan. The past few days have also been very windy, so I’ve needed to wear earplugs at night, so the sound doesn’t wake me up!
This week, I was riding my scooter to school and a monkey ran across the road! My school sits at the base of a mountain, so monkeys will often sneak onto campus to steal the dragon fruits the students grow. The monkeys here are about the size of racoons, and they can get pretty aggressive if they see you carrying food they also want. Besides monkeys, I regularly see cats, dogs, snails, slugs, and egrets here in Taiwan.
