Our News

I like the classic salt and pepper flavor combination, but some people like to add spicy powder to their squid, too! Night markets sell everything, from clothing to goldfish to all different types of food, so they are my favorite place to go for dinner and shopping!

What music did I listen to this week?:

During music class, I listened to my students perform the yueqin, which means “moon guitar” in English. The students play the yueqin and sing traditional songs in Taiwanese during festivals and local yueqin competitions.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

This week, the students made red bean car wheel cakes, known as 紅豆餅 (hongdou bing) in Chinese. These treats are called car wheel cakes because they are cylindrical in shape. The cakes are similar to pancakes and are filled with a sweet red bean paste. The cakes tasted and smelled delicious!

What did I read this week?:

I'm currently reading Aquanaut: The Inside Story of the Thai Cave Rescue. The book was written by one of the SCUBA divers who helped to rescue thirteen people from a flooded cave in Northern Thailand. In November, I went SCUBA diving in Taiwan, so it was interesting to read about the experiences of an expert SCUBA diver involved in such an amazing rescue mission!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

During morning recess, I joined the students' daily dodgeball game. I don’t have a very strong throw, so I usually get out at the beginning of the game, but I enjoy cheering for my team! I yell, Jiayou! Jiayou! which means “Go! Go!” in Chinese.
