Surviving in the Mountains

Imagine the  hassle of having to walk down the mountain just to attend school!

How have people been adapting to this environment?:

To adapt to the mountain life, the people grow most of their food to avoid having to make so many trips outside the village to buy groceries. They have for example a huge production of chestnuts, blackberries, and citrus such as lemons and oranges. The villagers build their houses small and close together to make good use of the space. They also put crushed slate on top of the roofs to reflect the heat. They use slate because it is a natural material found in the area and it is easily crushed for building purposes.
