Introduction:

Knowing the different forms of transportation in a new country is important to allow you to explore while living abroad. In Granada, the best and most common form of transportation is walking. Bikes, scooters and motorbikes are also common. Public transportation is frequently used, such as the city buses. Taxis run 24/7 which shows they are another reliable source of transportation. There is no uber here, but they have an app. called BlaBla Car that is useful for rides. Let’s explore the forms of transportation in Spain, together!

How do people get around?:

Here in the city of Granada, Spain, walking is the best transportation! Everyone walks. There are always people out in the streets walking. I walk twenty minutes every morning to my first university class that starts at 9 a.m., but the walk does not seem that far because I am not the only one walking.  Many people walk to work and to school. I feel safe walking in the city, even at 3 a.m!

If people choose not to walk then they usually get around on their bikes or motorcycles. Since many of the streets are narrow, having a motorcycle is a great idea. It is common to see locals dressed in full business suits, riding to work on these motorcycles!

There are two main bus systems used in Granada. The first system operates within the city boundaries and runs from 7 a.m. until 11 p.m.
