I explored one in Zurich, where the heavy snow added a magical touch, making it a winter wonderland if you will. The markets are so vibrant with festive charm. They offer food, clothing, jewelry and, of course, Swiss cheese. I’m not a fan of cheese, but how could I resist a free sample? Despite the colder days ahead, I’m eagerly awaiting more Christmas markets and the snowy across Switzerland.
So overall, weather this week was a mixture of winter wonderland and fall
Although I don’t live in the mountainous parts of Switzerland, like Saint-Cergue (just a 38-minute train ride from Geneva), I often spot many animals during my train journeys between cities or cantons. The most common sightings are Swiss cows and horses grazing peacefully in open fields. It’s fascinating how quickly the scenery shifts from bustling city streets to serene farmland surrounded by mountains.
Closer to home, animals are part of daily life too. Many locals own pets, and it’s common to see them out walking their dogs, enjoying the beautiful Swiss nature or just in the city running errands. On my walks from the train station, I often meet my neighbors’ friendly dogs or spot cats lounging in the community garden. These moments have led to great conversations with locals, where I get to compliment their pets and practice my French at the same time. It’s a simple yet rewarding way to connect with the culture here.
The coolest thing I saw in nature this week has to be the snow. There’s something truly magical about watching it fall for the first time while staying warm at home, working on assignments and glancing out to the Swiss Alps.
