This week in Switzerland has been a perfect balance of sunny days and crisp, autumn chill. Surprisingly, despite its mountainous geography, Switzerland isn’t freezing in November—yet! The warmth is still lingering with gentle breezes here and there as autumn bids farewell and winter begins. When I first got here it was sunny and hot in September. I’ve seen a few rainy days since arriving, but even then they are refreshing as it enhances the beauty of the mountains and the cityscapes.
Last week was the first snowfall, and even though I’m no stranger to snow (being from Maine), seeing it blanket the Swiss Alps felt surreal—like a scene straight out of a postcard or one of those instagram posts. While the temperature has dropped back to around 50°F in Geneva, it’s much colder up north. I noticed this during my weekend trip to Zurich. Perhaps these weather patterns reflect the effects of climate change—what do you think?
With the snow comes another seasonal delight: Christmas markets!
