Although Hiroshima may be most well known for the dropping of the nuclear bomb in 1945, it is also known for Okonomiyaki, a type of savory pancake dish. This food was used a lot during hard times when ingredients were difficult to find, and there are many version of Okonomiyaki.
The meal I tried is called Okonomiyaki, a dish made up of wheat flour batter, cabbage, meat, seafood and Okonomiyaki sauce. The sauce is made up of worcestershire sauce, dried seaweed flakes, bonito flakes, Japanese mayonnaise and pickled ginger.
The Okonomiyaki was filling. A couple of bites in, and I was already starting to feel full since the size of it is so big. Of course, it was hot since it was fresh off the griddle, but it also felt healthy to eat because of all the cabbage in it.
Okonomiyaki is prepared on a large griddle and with a spatula scraper. When eating it, you also get a spatula scraper to cut the meal. You also use chopsticks when eating it. The two popular versions of Okonomiyaki are the Kansai and Hiroshima Okonomiyaki.
