What main languages are spoken here?:

Chitwe, a dialect of Shona, is the local language spoken. Portuguese is also spoken by those who received formal education. 

What type of money is used here?:

The currency in Mozambique is called meticais (the singular is metical), and 60 meticais are worth one dollar in American currency.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water costs 20 meticais, or $0.33.

What was the best meal this week?:

I ate fresh pork from the farm along with seasoned fresh vegetables, including peppers, kale, tomatoes and onions. Cooked and seasoned kale along with "xima" (pronounced "shima"), a concoction of hot water and corn flour, is a traditional dish in all of Mozambique. 

What music did I listen to this week?:

I listened to music by a Zimbabwean artist named Jah Prayzah. I would recommend listenining to all or any of his music!

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I enjoyed hiking with friends I have made while here and arriving at a waterfall at the end of the hike. 

What did I read this week?:

I read The New Jim Crow: Mass Incarceration in the Age of Colorblindness by Michelle Alexander.
