Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I traveled from my home in Messica, Mozambique, to Tete, Mozambique, and back again. Each trip took the entire day through public transportation, though it would take only four hours if done by private car.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

I arrived in Mozambique in June 2019. Since that time, I have traveled from Maputo, the capital of Mozambique, to Beira, located on the east coast of Mozambique, as well as to Machipanda, located on the western border of Mozambique. I have almost traveled completely through Mozambique. I have yet to visit north of the Zambezi River, however!

How did I get around this week?:

I used the public transport system, which involved riding on minibuses called chapas and larger buses called machibombos.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

I loved visiting the waterfalls located near the farm in Honde, Mozambique.

Other Travel News from this week:

I recently visited the river running behind my vila. My Mozambican friend brought an extra fishing pole for me and taught me how to catch a popular fish the locals call "chicamba", which is the same fish we know as tilapia back in the U.S.! My vila is well-renowned for this specific fish, and many travelers frequent our fish markets due to this.
