There are two main languages in Peru: Spanish, which is refered to as Castillano, and Quechua, which is an indigenous language spoken in the rainforest and mountains of Peru. In my town, people will often combine the two languages in the same sentence, which can make it very difficult to translate!
The currency used in Peru is soles. There are both coins and paper bills used with denominations ranging from 10 cents (centimos) to 500 dollars (soles), although the 500 soles bill is rarely used. Due to the remote nature of my town, there is a lack of banks or A.T.M.'s, and it is difficult to withdraw cash, so many locals use a mobile application called Yape to send and receive money when buying or selling things in stores or to exchange with neighbors and friends.
A bottle of water costs one sol. RIght now, one sol is equivalent to about 30 cents in the Unites States.
