In total, I traveled 104 kilometers or 65 miles this week. I traveled to the regional capital, which is about 40 kilometers or 25 miles from my site when I travel by car with a neighbor. The road is gravel and dirt, winding back and forth along the edge of a mountain, with lots of potholes. The road is only wide enough for one car to travel through at many points, so occasionally you have to stop and back up when you encounter another car! From the regional capital I took a public van to another city, a trip of about 56 kilometers or 35 miles. From that city, I met up with my friends and we traveled in a private van from about eight kilometers or five miles to reach the trailhead of the waterfall. Then I repeated it all to get back to my site.
On this journey, I have traveled quite a bit. I visited Ecuador using a van, which was about 770 kilometers or 478 miles round trip. I have traveled to Lima, the capital of Peru, from various regions, usually taking an overnight bus that takes a total of 30 hours. I also visited Buenos Aires, Argentina via airplane, which is about 3,900 kilometers or 2,423 miles away from Lima. I plan to explore even more of South America during my time here!
