When we think about community, we generally think about issues like sanitation, transportation, accessibility etc.. However, people hardly discuss the anxieties and loneliness caused by the progress of civilization and the advent of digitally; each passing day we are getting increasingly detached and isolated. Bloomington, which is highly diverse in terms of its demographic constitution, recognizes that the chief mantra of a happy community is a community that works together. And, it is this recognition that has inspired the community to undertake the massive work of organizing an annual world music festival where artists from across the globe participate in a three-day-long event.
Bloomington is a typical college town in the USA which hosts an enormous number of international students, faculty, and scholars, like me. Often, away from our families and countries, we find it difficult to cope with an entirely different country and culture. The community recognizes this fact and to enhance interactions with the local residents, they actively engage all interested people to volunteer. The volunteers can be as young or as old, it really doesn't matter for there is a job for everyone over here!
