Morocco's Potential as a Global Example for Sustainable Development

The youth in Morocco all acknowledge the problems around them but unfortunately, they do not know how to begin to solve them. This is why I am beginning to make a network of active associations to encourage grassroots development to teach people how to be "agents of change" in their communities.

What community need did I learn about?:

Since I am working on sustainable infrastructure, we will discuss the need for waste management services in Tameslouht.

Why does the community have this need?:

Tameslouht is an up-and-coming community that has been growing fast ( about 34% yearly growth rate from 2004-2014). This has created more waste, making the original system of donkey cart trash collection and dumping in large open landfills obsolete.

Is this need being met? How?:

Over the past two years, Tameslouht has gotten three garbage trucks. cleaned up the huge open landfill and consolidated the waste in a walled-in location. The local government still wants to create a larger facility, and at the same time, the regional government has a master plan for solid waste to create waste management hub facilities in four different towns in the Al Haouz province. These facilities will gather trash from their areas and then send it to Marrakech's more advanced landfill for disposal.

However, they have yet to find land to build them on, and they don't have facility designs either.
