I'm trying to branch out to new flavors, but strawberry gelato just reels me back in each time--it's my favorite!
Gnocchi are made by mixing mashed potatoes, flour, and eggs into a soft dough. You roll the dough into ropes, cut it into small pieces, and boil them until they float. Then, they’re baked with tomato sauce and mozzarella until the cheese melts and bubbles.
Tacos start with small corn or flour tortillas filled with cooked meat, beans, or vegetables. You can top them with salsa, onions, cilantro, and lime juice. It’s a simple meal, but when made right, it tastes incredible.
Gelato is made with milk, sugar, and fresh ingredients like fruit, nuts, or chocolate. It’s churned slowly, so it’s denser and creamier than ice cream. Italians take gelato seriously and every flavor is usually made fresh in house.
Gnocchi is very Italian and is made with local potatoes, tomatoes, and mozzarella cheese--all common ingredients in Italian cooking. It shows how Italians value fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients.
The tacos, though, come from Mexican culture. They don’t really connect to Italy’s environment, but it really shows how food travels connects us across the world. It’s amazing that in a city full of pasta and pizza, you can still find a little taste of other cultures.
