Traditional Polish Food

Have you ever heard of or tried a pierogi before? They are dumplings filled with a number of different things. They can be savory or sweet. They can be filled with meat, cheese, potatoes, spinach or even fruit like strawberries and blueberries. I was able to try some that were stuffed with chocolate, bananas and raspberries and they were really good!

Poland is also known for their chocolate. One of their most famous candy bars is called a "Prince Polo" bar. This is like a kit kat bar and has thin wafer layers covered in chocolate!  One of the largest chocolate producers in Poland is called "E. Wedel." They make a number of different chocolate bars and they have cafes all over Poland. Their cafes are particularly special because you can get custom hot chocolate there!  The hot chocolate is some of the best that I have ever had. It is very rich and almost like you are drinking melted chocolate. You can choose the type of chocolate you want and any flavors added to it. One of my favorites was to add caramel to the hot chocolate. Doughnuts are also very common in Poland and are called Paczki. They typically are stuffed with jelly and the most traditional is stuffed with rose-flavored jam. There is a holiday in the spring each year called "Paczki day" where everyone lines up to buy and eat as many Paczki as they can!

Finally, Poland is also known for their fish. It is common to serve cold pickled fish. I will explain a specific type of this fish that I ended up trying below!

What food did I try?:

There is a specific fish-based dish in Poland that I tried called rollmops. Rollmops are pickled herring (fish) wrapped around a pickle.
