Getting around Warsaw, Poland

Introduction:

Warsaw, the capital of Poland, is a very large city with nearly two million people. As a first time visitor to the city, it can be difficult or scary to figure out how to get around. The three most common ways of getting around the city are taking a bus, electric tram, or subway. Each of these types of transportation only travel to certain areas of the city, so you have to look at a map and see which is best for you to ride. The buses are the most common type of transportation and run through all parts of the city. The electric trams are like the bus, but instead of using gasoline to run, they use an electric line above to move through the city center. The subway is below ground and only goes around the center of the city. It is also common to walk, ride a bicycle or take an Uber around the city.

If you want to take a further trip outside of the city to see other parts of Poland, you can take a train in the Warsaw Central Station. These train rides are three to five hours long and make multiple stops along the way.

How do people get around?:

There are many different choices to get around the city. Warsaw is a very flat city and local residents do a lot of walking! To get to and from work every day, I walk between three to four miles and take two buses. Buses come every 30 minutes and go all over the city.
