Getting around Warsaw, Poland

To ride a bus, you have to find a ticket machine and look at a map of the bus lines to determine what bus number you want to ride and how much the ticket will cost. For a single ride, the ticket costs around one dollar.

The center of the city has the electric trams and subway lines. These are very convenient to get to locations in the middle of the city and come more frequently than the buses (every five to ten minutes). The subway line reminded me of the subway in New York City!  Have you ever ridden the subway? How often do you take it? The electric trams operate using overhead electric wires and train tracks.

If you were visiting the city as a tourist, you would likely use a combination of the buses, trams, or subways to move through the city. However, since these types of transportation can be challenging to figure out if you do not speak Polish (signs are not written in English), you may instead use a system like Uber or a taxi. Uber and taxis are very affordable in Poland, with a twenty minute ride costing about five dollars. However, if you are still uncertain, you can always ask a local resident for help. They are very friendly and will try to help you as much as they can if they speak English.

How did I feel when I tried this way of getting around?:

The first time that I tried to take a bus, I was very nervous. The maps of the bus stops are written in Polish and I can only read a little bit of Polish. I was worried that I would get on the incorrect bus line and end up in the wrong direction. When you select the bus you have to make sure that you are on the correct side of the street for the direction that you want to go, but this can be tricky to figure out.
