As you are all aware by now, Wuhan is a big city. It is located in central China, in China’s Hubei province. In fact, Wuhan is not only the largest city in Hubei, but it is also the province’s capitol. The city is estimated to have around 8,000,000 people! My goodness, that’s a lot of zeros! Imagine if your hometown had to accommodate that many people; there wouldn’t be much room for anything besides housing, right? That’s why Wuhan is predominately made up of tall skyscrapers--to accommodate for all of its citizens.
Wuhan’s population skyrocketed in the last century. In 1950, Wuhan’s population was recorded at 1,068,258. Then, in 1995, the population jumped to 4,762,594 people. Flash-forward to 2010 when Wuhan’s population sat at 7,514,801. And finally, to present-day, 2018; Wuhan’s population is 8,175,602. So what does this have to do with Wuhan’s environment?
Wuhan is a rapidly growing city, and its population is still predicted to continue to jump in numbers. So, Wuhan, the city, needs to keep up with all of the population growth. This being said, the city is constantly under construction. Right now, a big project in the city is the development of a new metro line. Because of the continuous construction, Wuhan’s environment varies day to day.
