Also, because Wuhan is a big city built mostly on concrete, there isn’t much wildlife, nor are there many plants. Most of the city’s trees sprout from small patches of dirt, which are surrounded by concrete. The lack of trees and plants also impacts the air. Plants help purify the air we breathe, and without them, the air can actually hurt us in the long run. In Wuhan, you’ll find that many of the trees’ trunks have been painted white. I asked my friend about it and he said that this paint is actually a type of medicine to keep the trees healthy. So the healthier the trees are, the better the air can be for the city’s citizens.
Wuhan’s people are very used to the constant change--especially since the city’s motto advertises it! I’ve observed many people glide by gaping holes in the sidewalk as if they are nothing, while I wait by the sidelines until there’s a clear passage around the obstacle. I think, in this way, Wuhanites are quite fearless. However, I still think it’s important to be aware of your surroundings!
