The main language spoken is Serbian, but almost everyone in Belgrade speaks English too. Serbian is a Slavic language and similar to Russian. The Serbian language uses both the Cyrillic and Latin alphabets! These street signs are the same words but written in different alphabets.
One of my favorite Serbian dishes is "šorpska salada" which is chopped up cucumbers, tomatoes, and shredded white cheese. I always make sure to order the delicious bread and kajmak, a type of Balkan whipped cheese, at Serbian restaurants too.
I have to read lots of academic articles for school, on topics like peacebuilding and European security. Reading is one of my favorite hobbies - I am always reading more than one book! Right now, I am reading The Dissolution of Yugoslavia to learn more about the history of the region and Serbia. Before bed, I am reading A Little Life, a novel by Hanya Yanagihara about four classmates who moved to New York. What are you reading right now?
