Fish are Friends, Not Food!

Introduction:

The word “koi” comes from the Japanese language, and it translates directly to carp. These koi fish are very interesting because they do not share a single origin. China was the first ancient country to breed these koi fish, and that is why they all have different colors and patterns.

What does this creature or plant look like?:

Koi fish have a wide variety of colors. The colors range from red, white, black, blue, yellow, to cream. They look like an oversized goldfish and technically speaking, they are. Since koi fish came about from breeding different carp, goldfish was another type of fish that came with the cross-breeding.

How did I feel when I saw it?:

I loved seeing the koi fish because I have only seen them in a few places in the United States. The ponds that I saw them in were controlled and the fish were used for decorative purposes only. Seeing them in the wild for the first time was really cool.

Where does it live?:

Koi are cold-water fish that thrive in most freshwater environments. The can survive all over the world given the right conditions.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

Koi survive by making the pond they are living in their own. They do this by making the water unlivable to some plants, and they also make the water undrinkable.
