Flavors of Terenga

This dish has grown on me significantly as I first could not stomach it but now, genuinly enjoy it.

Yankataung Gerte

This is a white rice and peanut paste dish that is fun to say and has become one of my more favorite foods here. Sometimes we'll have fresh onions cut up as a topping, along with a tiny dried fish and always a hot pepper and a salty, marmite-like paste for folks around the bowl to add to their sections as they like.

Peas/Sphaetti

The heavenly petit pois, or green peas, nights are few and far between but offer a protein punch that my body requires by the time it rolls around. Greasy potatoes are also often in the mix along with some onions and some meat that resembles spam. This dish is served with some tapilapa bread, which folks around the bowl tear off into chunks to help scoop up the meal. This same style of meal is sometimes created with spaghetti noodles instead of peas.

The Sweet Sweet Special

If you couldn't tell by now, vegetables and protein-sources are not widely eaten. A meal with no name that is typically reserved for the most special of occasions and only at dinner is a meal comprised of lettuce, fresh-tomatoes, french fries, fried onions and an entire chicken, stuffed with a basil-and spices paste. Sometimes mayonnaise accompanies the dish and much like the peas or spaghetti dish, it is served with bread for scooping all the goodness into one's mouth.

Snacks

While snacking is not the norm, leftovers from lunch will often serve as a small meal for people until dinner.
