Food is very important in France. Fresh, local ingredients are important to people here. Every mealtime is special. French cuisine is famous all around the world for its delicious flavors and high-quality ingredients. Shopping for food can be just as important as cooking it!
This week, I went to the town of Fontainebleau (say it: fawn-ten-BLUE). It's famous for its château (say it: sha-TOE), a palace where the kings of France used to live! I'll save that visit for another time. I was in Fontainebleau to visit its market! It is a pop-up market. It pops up each week, on Sunday, to sell fruits, veggies, meat and other mouth-watering treats. Yum!
Each town here in France has a weekly market. They usually sell the specialties of their area. I went to Fontainebleau because I heard it was one of the best in the region! This market had food from all over France.
I ended up buying a lot of stuff at the Fontainebleau market. Everything looked so delicious! I got some Mirabelle plums. You might imagine plums to be purple or red, but these ones were yellow! They were also smaller. They tasted so sweet and so fresh. It's the perfect healthy snack. I think it has quickly become one of my favorite fruits.
I also got some cheese. They have so many different kinds of cheeses here in France.
