Bee-lieve it, Honey!

Seeing bees in your area means that the local ecosystem is doing well. This is because bees pollinate plants. They go from flower to flower, drinking up nectar. At the same time, pollen on the flowers stick to the bee's fuzzy body. When this pollen lands in another flower, the flower can then start becoming a fruit. And what do we find in fruits? We find seeds! The seeds can then grow into new plants. Bees are an important way for plants to grow and spread.

One of the best parts is that bees make honey from the nectar they take from flowers. Honey is such a great food. It has nutrients called antioxidants that keep your body working perfectly. It's a wonderful way to make food sweeter, too. Do you use honey in your food?

Where does it live?:

Bees live in hives all over Paris. Like I said earlier, they can live on the roofs of important monuments. They can also live in the many gardens of Paris.

One thing I think is really cute is that Paris gardens have "bee hotels!" They're little wooden houses where bees and other insects can stop for a rest.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

The yellow and black stripes of the bee make it tougher to spot when it flies through bright flowers. This is called camouflage. It helps them hide from birds who might want to eat them.

The nectar that the bees take from flowers also helps them survive. Bees turn the nectar into honey to feed their young in their hives. They often make too much honey. The extra is what beekeepers collect to sell in stores.
