Haifa's public transportation system makes it easy for people to get around. There's many options to travel through Haifa. You can get around via bus, train, light rail, underground train or taxi. Haifa's bus system is very similar to the bus system in the U.S., and it is a popular way to get around the city. Getting around by train is also efficient because you can get around Israel faster than by bus. I took a train from the airport in Tel Aviv to Haifa, and it took only one hour! The light rail is known as the Metronit. Personally, I am not familiar with it yet, but we were told it runs three lines around Haifa. There's also the underground train called the Carmelit, with which I am also not yet familar. The Carmelit is actually the only underground train in all of Israel. It makes it easy to access all the tourist spots in Haifa like museums, parks and restaurants. The Carmelit's total travel time is only eight minutes, making it the fastest of all of the options!
Transportation is easily accessible, but because of Shabbat (which is a day of rest for Jews that I will explain in more detail in the future), most transportation is closed from Friday evening up until Saturday morning. Some bus routes do continue working, though.
