Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

We normally manage to row between 75-90 miles a day, depending on what the wind is doing and how tired we are. This week the weather has been poor, which make it harder for us to advance. We only managed around 560 miles during the week, which is little less then we’d like, but it is still about the same distance as travelling from Los Angeles to Salt Lake City.

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

So far we’ve traveled around 2,500 miles since leaving La Gomera in Tenerife, Spain. We have about 500 more miles to go before we'll see Nelson’s Dockyard in Antigua appear on the horizon!

How did I get around this week?:

Every single mile covered has been by rowing in our relatively small rowing boat HMS Oardacious! It’s very slow. We normally average between 2.5 to 3.5 miles an hour, so we’re not exactly flying along.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

The days often look very much the same as we're rowing, constantly surrounded by ocean as far as we can see. That is possibly why the visits from wildlife and our calls with family members become so important. They allow us to break up the journey, which would otherwise be very dull. There are not a lot of things to see in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.
