Introducing Karen Smith

To say "Hello" in French, she says "Bonjour," and in Arabic, she says "Salaam".

Do you have pets?:

Mrs. Karen has two dogs and two cats. Her cats and dogs don't like each other, so the dogs stay outside and the cats stay inside. She has Siamese cats and they enjoy watching movies with her. She wishes that one day she can live on a farm and have horses, as well.

Have you traveled? Where have you traveled to?:

Mrs. Karen has traveled many places! She has traveled to Morocco, Germany, France, Italy, Burkina Faso, Madagascar, Egypt, Lebanon, Tanzania, Indonesia, Japan, Switzerland, England, Tunisia, Spain, Greece and Malaysia. She says you all should travel and explore and enjoy different countries. There is so much to see and so much to love in different countries!

What do you do for work?:

Mrs. Karen works two full-time jobs. She works as a chaplain to the Christian community in Morocco and co-director and advisor to Interfaith Alliance, a student club/organization that encourages peace and cooperation between all religions. She also is the president of the Protestant Church in Morocco and runs an organization that works with migrants and refugees in Morocco.

Is there anything else you would like to say to students in the United States?:

Mrs. Karen encourages students to think outside of the U.S. "The world is very big and amazing and you have something to offer this world. Don't limit your imagination to a small context, but imagine the impact you can make in the world. Each of you have gifts and talents and can share with this great big, beautiful world. Build bridges instead of walls."
