Luckily turtles have large, thick shells. This protects them from other predators (creatures that can hurt them). When a turtle hides in its shell, the animal looks just like a large rock. The shell has patterns on it that make it look like a rock, too. Most of the time, these shells are gray and have different lines that seem similar to stones. No wonder turtles can live for so long! They are well adapted to hiding. I would not want to play hide and seek with a turtle, as I think it might win!
