Just like I mentioned during our video call, one of the coolest animals I have seen up close are the turtles. When I moved into my house, the people I am renting from told me that there are cats... and also turtles! I was very surprised that there were turtles roaming the backyard, but I have come to enjoy seeing them out my window and up close.
These turtles are very big! Unlike small turtles that people sometimes have as pets in the United States, these turtles are much larger. They remind me of the photos of the large Galapagos turtles that I learned about in school. The shells of the turtle are very, very hard. This protects them from other creatures that might try to hurt the turtle when it sleeps. These shells are also very pretty to look at. Each of them has a slightly different pattern on it, which is the only way you can tell two turtles apart. There are three different turtles that live in my backyard, and apparently they just appeared one day. They have been there for years.
Just today, I was coming back to my house, and one of the turtles was walking right past me. It was making suprisingly loud noises, almost like it was huffing and puffing from walking too much. When I leaned closer to take some photos so I could show you, it suddenly pulled its head into its shell!
