Getting a Taste of Europe

Introduction:

I love to try new foods. The food here in The Netherlands is not known for being good, but meals are still really fun! That is because of the friendly Dutch people I get to talk to. I believe an important part of a meal is how much fun you have when talking to other people. When I first got to The Netherlands, everyone told me that the MOST important words to learn in Dutch are lekker and gezelligLekker means "tasty". In Dutch, "tasty sandwich” translates to lekker boterham. But you can also use lekker to describe a person as "nice". So you could say that your friend is a lekker persoon. Don't worry! Everyone knows that you are not referring to your friend as a tasty snack!  The other important word is gezellig, which means "cozy and friendly". The feeling of enjoying hot cocoa with your friends when it's snowing outside is gezellig. Now that you know how to talk about food, let's get into it.

What food did I try?:

I've tried a few Dutch dishes. My favorites are bitterballen ("bitter-ball-en") and pannenkoeken ("pan-en-coke-en"). Bitterballen are like meatballs, but instead of putting them on top of spaghetti they give them to you on a plate.
