Dutch School and Life

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

We have to go to school from 8:30 - 3:00 pm with an hour break for lunch. But we often have a half day on Wednesday so then we get out at 12:30!

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I bike to school, I've been biking school since I was little and so have most of my friends. I think we are allowed to go alone because most people live close to the school.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch on a bench in front of my school when it is warm out, but when it is cold we eat inside the school. My favorite food is a tie between speculaas and stroopwaffles!

What language do you speak at school? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

We speak Dutch at my school, but we have to take 6 years of English classes. "Hello" is hallo in Dutch.

What are some common kids' names at your school?:

Some common names at my school are Daan ("Daahn"), Jop ("Yuh-op"), Tess, and Lisa.

What subjects do you study in school, and which one is your favorite?:

We have classes in languages, mathematics, history, arts, and sciences. My favorite is my music class!

What is your homework like?:

We have a few written assignments per day. We don't have a lot of homework, but we get more now than we did in primary school (students in primary school are only allowed to have 30 minutes of homework per day, but this rule changes when they are in secondary school).
