A Snapshot into the Lives of Korean High Schoolers

What would you like to be when you grow up?:

Many students said they want to be a doctor. Some students also said social worker, Korean teacher, veterinarian, pharmacist or dentist.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go?:

Students said France, Canada, Japan, North Korea, Finland, England, America, San Francisco, and Switzerland. One student said they would go to Hawaii and rest.

What do you know or think about the United States?:

Student #1: I don’t know the United States that well.

Student #2: That there will be a presidential election soon.

Student #3: The U.S. is the richest country.

Student #4: They use English, American dollars, it was discovered by Columbus, there are many states, and the capitol is DC.

Student #5: America is a very big land.

What questions do you have for kids in the United States?:

Student #1: Are you satisfied with the American school system?

Student #2: How do you play with your friends?

Student #3: What do you think about Korea?

Student #4: How's your school?

Student #5: What do you know or think about South Korea?

Student #6: What do you think about American school?

Student #7: I don’t have any questions but "Fighting and cheer up!"

In South Korea, people say fighting (화이팅) as a show of support and encouragement. It is used to wish people good luck!
