Cast Your Appetite into a Sea of Flavor

Introduction:

Have you ever been to a restaurant where you cooked your own meat? That may have been Korean barbecue and it is extremely popular in America! Marinated rice cakes called tteokbokki (duk-bok-ee) or Korean hotdogs filled with cheese have also become popular in America recently. You may already be familiar with the cuisine but let's look a little deeper at some other authentic Korean food. A lot of Korean food is red because they use a specific pepper to season their food called gochu. Depending on how much they use, Korean food can be VERY spicy! I assumed most Koreans enjoy spicy food because it is so common here but I have met many people who don't like spice. Do you enjoy spicy food? I personally do not but I wish I did. There are so many different Korean dishes we could learn about but this last week, I ate a lot of fish, so let's talk about it!

What food did I try?:

I tried a dish called 칼국수 (Kal-guksu), which means knife-cut noodles. The noodles are handmade and added to a yummy broth with meat. I don't eat meat so we had a seafood Kalguksu. There were shrimp and little octopi in it. I also tried raw fish called 회 (hwe) and live octopus called 산낙지(San-nakji) at a work dinner I went to!
