I don't know what I would do without them. The Conecta card allows me to travel throughout Asturias affordably. They also have very affordable options for roundtrip transportations to cities that are further away. They almost always on time, have a consistent schedule, and their mobile app to check routes and times is spectacular. If you come to Asturias, now you know how to get around.
Most of Spain is pretty accesible via public transport. I believe it has more to do with an enviormentally friendly aspect rather than the culture. For example in certain cities such as Madrid, and Gijon, there are low emission zones which certain vehicles cannot enter at all. The government also promotes economically friendlly options for public transport. This includes the Train card, which costs 10 euros for fout months unlimited use throughout Asturias, and if you use it at least 16 times, the 10 euros are refunded to you. There is also the Conecta card, which you load money into, and can use any method of public transport including the train, bus etc. at a heavily discounted rate and with a cap of 30 euros being charged per month. For example, if I decided to take a bus roundtrip that cost one euro each way for 30 days, the total amount at the end of the month would come out to 60 euros, but with the Conecta card, you would only be charged 30 euros and everything above that would technically be free. These two cards have been great for me and I imagine the locals love them even more. These systems in place are great because it reduces the need for vehicles and ultimately keeps emissions low and Asturias clean.
