I am in Spain on a Fulbright scholarship, helping to teach English along with sharing my American culture with students here in Spain.
I live in Oviedo, which is the capital city of Asturias. Similar to the United States, Spain is split up into smaller regions. Asturias is one of the lesser known ones, but it is absolutely amazing. Asturias has a population of just over one million people, and the city I live in has a population over 200,000. Although that may sound like a lot, it does not feel that way. As far as housing goes, I live in a 5-bedroom apartment. Everyone has their own room, with a lock, as well as a private bathroom. I am comfortable here and reside in a great location to commute everyday.
Getting around the city is not too difficult. I will get more into depth about this later but for the most part, I get around by train or walking.
I wear a lot of the same clothing I would wear back in Newport. Asturias is great as the temperature normally does not go below 40 degrees or rise above 70 degrees. This allows me to wear my sweatshirts, jackets and windbreakers comfortably. I'll throw on a pair of jeans or sweats and call it a day. The people in the city do tend to dress up more, but I do what makes me comfortable.
