Most days, I helped prepare the table for dinner. I always had to put my things away from the living room. Sometimes, my sister and I helped clear the dishes after dinner. Also, my mom always wanted me to keep my room clean.
My dad was an accountant, then he switched to being a consultant. Mom was an assistant of a doctor, which in the Netherlands is sort of like a nurse and sort of like the secretary (this is a combined job here). She stopped working when she had kids.
We started school at 8:15am. We had a lunch break where we all biked home for an hour from 12pm-1pm. And then we ended school at 3:15pm.
I got to school by bike, and I was allowed to go all by myself. I lived pretty close to the school, so this was normal.
I ate lunch at home and my favorite food was stroopwaffels (which I sometimes ate for dessert).
I spoke Dutch at school, but we learned a lot of languages. I learned English first, then started taking German classes later on.
"Hello" in Dutch is "Hallo."
