In a city like Thessaloniki, a good food spot is not hard to find. Whether it's street food or a sit down restaurant, there are always plenty of places for people of all tastes to enjoy. I am fortunate enough to live in a part of the city where there is an abundance of restaurants to explore. I, for one, find it really exciting to see how each restaurant makes the same dish. It is always a bit of a surprise, because while many places may serve many of the same dishes, no two restaurants taste the same!
Τζατζίκι (Tzatziki) is a dip that is made with Greek yogurt, cucumber and dill and then dressed with olive oil. It’s often served as an appetizer with a side of bread but easily wakes up the taste buds for the main course. Though not common, I like to eat this dish with a sprinkle of squeezed lemon, just to add an extra citrus element that pairs nicely with the yogurt.
Χόρτα (Horta) is probably the only salad here that has actual leafy greens in it. While a typical Greek salad can vary from a mix of baby tomatoes, cucumbers, raw onions and feta cheese, this salad consists of strictly leafy greens that are then boiled and mixed with olive oil and salt. This dish is served with a side of lemon to add a bit of zest to what is a pretty simple meal.
