Φέτα σαγανάκι (Feta Saganaki or "Fried Feta) is essentially a fried block of feta cheese that is coated with sesame seed and then drizzled with honey. While in theory this dish is very cut and dry, it actually varies from place to place. While in some restaurants, it could look like a golden crusted block of rich, tangy cheese, in others it could just be feta that is lightly roasted and then topped with honey. It really just depends on where you go!
Γαύρος (Gavros) is another staple appetizer on any menu! This dish features marinated anchovies drizzled with olive oil. But I must say beware, this item is a bit of an acquired taste! As a salt-lover myself, this dish is VERY salty!
Σπανακόπιτα (Spanakopita) is a very popular pastry here in Greece. It consists of perfectly crispy layers of phyllo dough with savory spinach and feta cheese filling. You can find flakey treats at basically any coffee shop, but make sure to grab some before they run out!
Χοιρινό φιλέτο (Pork Fillet) is not the juicy cut of pork loin that you would think. Here, this dish is more of a sausage accompanied with tomatoes and onions on a bed of pita slices. If you're not a huge fan of sausage like I am, this dish is still a good option is you're looking for something tender and off the grill!
Ντολμάδες (Dolmades) is another heart vegetarian option! It is made from tender vine leaves wrapped into little rolls and stuffed with rice and fresh herbs. You typically get anywhere from five to eight of these in a single order, so it is enough for everyone at the table to get a bite!
