Our News

I really enjoy learning about animals and finding out what work scientists are doing to research and protect them. It is important for me to know lots of whale shark facts because I spend a lot of time on ocean safari boats with tourists to gather data for my research. The tourists always ask me questions about the whale sharks and I like to answer their questions the best I can!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

My friends and I play a lot of games on UNO. Even though I have made friends with people from many different countries here in Mozambique, everyone I met knows how to play UNO! It is also fun to find out what special rules other people have when playing UNO. I also swim a lot. When I am out in the field I get in the water every time we spot a whale shark. I use fins and a snorkel to keep up with the fast-swimming whale sharks and am usually very tired at the end of the day from all the swimming.

Other news from this week:

I got to take lots of photos of whale sharks for photo identification this week! I photograph the whale sharks I see when I go snorkeling and then upload the pictures to a database. The photos are compared to thousands of other pictures of whale sharks to see if the whale shark has already been identified by researchers, or if it is a brand new shark that scientists have recorded yet!
