Art in the Streets

Introduction:

As a painter, I have always seen a connection between art and the community. However, São Paulo provides an incredible outdoor area for Brazilians and international people to experience a sense of community through public art.

What community need did I learn about?:

Before the development of Beco de Batman, the walls of São Paulo did not contain much artwork for the citizens of Brazil. However, with this attraction, many different artists came together to create beauty for Brazilians and the international community.

Why does the community have this need?:

Beco de Batman has attracted many international tourists to the city of São Paulo. As a result, many different cultures have mixed in this outdoor public art area. There are many references to U.S. American culture, as well as other artistic movements around the world. Have you ever seen art outside?

Is this need being met? How?:

The need for art is being met through the movement for public art in the world. In the United States, you may have seen different types of art in the subway, on the sides of buildings or even on billboards. In our world, we are meeting the need for art by supporting local artists, funding the arts movement and creating work for our own self-expression.
