Throughout Thailand, many communities suffer from being underdeveloped. Many of the people in these communities reside in remote areas in the hills, and sometimes they are not even given Thai citizenship. These communities have their own dialect and culture. Although this is the case, King Rama the Ninth (Rama IX) made it his mission to modernize these communities and connect them more closely to Thai culture.
These communities have many needs based on their lack of access. For example, until recently, some of these communities did not have electricity, adequate irrigation systems or the ability to provide a high school or university education due to their disconnection from the modern world.
Many of these communities are based in remote villages, with only a few individuals. In most cases, these people have been living a less technology-based life for generations, where they predominantly depend on the land and natural resources like rainwater and sunlight.
