A Day in Lizzy's Mauritian Life

Introduction:

Elizabeth (a.k.a. "Lizzy") was very excited to move to Mauritius, but she also felt a bit nervous about what it would be like. She had to leave her friends, her school, and her beloved volunteer job at the local aquarium. What would it be like living in a foreign country? Would it be scary? Would the food taste good? Would it be hard to understand other people? There were a lot of questions in her head, but she was ready for a big adventure no matter what it would be like. Below, she'll tell you in her own words about her experiences in Mauritius.

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

"For breakfast, I usually eat cereal or little breakfast bars (a fruit biscuit). For lunch, sometimes we'll get street foods like roti or cheese samoussas (fried dough in the shape of a triangle with some sort of ingredient inside). Other times we'll have some of the fruits or vegetables that are here, such as calebasse, litchi, or passionfruit. For dinner, we usually have things that are heavily spiced with Indian spices and herbs, like rice or lentils, sometimes green beans."

What is your house like?:

"It is a third story apartment that we are renting from a local couple. Our neighbor downstairs is from Kenya. Our apartment consists of three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and our kitchen/living room and dining room are combined.
