Our News

In my freetime, I'm not really into listening to music, but I like to remember home, so I listen to country music like Darius Rucker or some island jams like Better Together by Jack Johnson.

What activity was the most fun this week?:

I really enjoyed going downtown this week in Willemstad and relaxing at the concert. I do enjoy the risky adventures, but it was nice, afterwards, to relax and laugh about what lionfish got away or how we all climbed to the top of the cliffside.

What did I read this week?:

Given how I'm a scientist, I have to read a lot about fish acoustics in scientific reports. I stay up to date in the field by exploring Google Scholar. However, for fun, I have also been reading a book called The Underword by Susan Casey. In this book, the author talks about exploring some of the deepest parts of the oceans, and I am learning a lot about the history of human sub-diving thanks to this book!

What games or sports did I play this week?:

I got to play one of my all time favorites, UNO! I played it all the time when I was younger, (along with swimming). Now, I get to swim and dive almost every day! A popular game I haven't had the opportunity (or maybe the skill) to play is Dominos. It gets quite intense in the Caribbean islands, and people can be seen playing it all across the island.

Other news from this week:

Curacao witnessed a rare rainstorm this week. Luckily, all that came was a little rain and a lot of wind. When Curacao gets rain, the soil-type and drainage of the island often causes flash-flooding.
