Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

I've traveled by plane, train, bus and boat, across Portugal and across Europe. I flew almost 15,000 miles during my time in Europe!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

To get to Lisbon from Phoenix, I had to fly through Canada. I flew from Phoenix, Arizona to Toronto, Canada and from Toronto, Canada to Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon is more than 5,000 miles away from my home!

How did I get around this week?:

In Lisbon, I used the public transportation system every day. Lisbon has four subway lines, called O Metropolitano de Lisboa, or metro for short. Lisbon also has many hills, but is still a very walkable city. While it is hard to bike in some parts of Lisbon, there are many bike lanes in the flatter areas of the city, such as near the river.

What was the most interesting place I visited this week?:

A place I really loved visiting in Portugal was São Miguel Island. São Miguel is an island in the middle of the Atlantic, one of nine islands that form an archipelago called the Açores. The islands were formed by volcanos, and afterwards became lush, green islands. The nature and scenery in these islands is incredible, with many lakes spread across the green island landscapes. These islands also are home to many cows, and produce a third of all dairy in Portugal!
