I spent many hours this week learning Vietnamese. Now, I can name many fruits and vegetables in Vietnamese. This is an important subject to learn, especially when reading a menu at a restaurant or shopping in a local market. When I am cooking, I can easily practice some of the words I have learned. For example, the word for potato is khoai tây (qwhy tay). I am still having trouble with all of the different accent marks (for example, the arrow shape above the a in tây ).
In Vietnam, I am literally a millionaire! Many people in Vietnam are millionaires. One million Vietnam đồng is equal to about 40 US dollars. So, what can you buy with one million Vietnam đồng? I could buy 28 cups of my favorite coffee, or I could get 100 banh mi sandwiches. I find it easier to budget my money when I have cash on me and not a credit card. Thankfully, many places only accept cash.
Usually, I get filtered water from a large container. However, I finished the container earlier this week. That is nothing to worry about though. Even though it is considered unsafe to drink water out of the faucet, there is a way to make tap water drinkable.
