Laura is one of the three people with whom I share an apartment in the altstadt (old city) of Dresden. She was very excited to share what her daily life looks like with students in the United States. Laura made us some tea then we jumped straight into the interview questions. This interview was conducted in German and translated into English by me.
"My full name is Laura Marie Charlotte, but my rufname (the name someone goes by) is Laura. I got the name Marie from my mother; this is her second name as well."
"Right now I am living in a Wohngemeinschaft or WG. This is a shared apartment in an apartment building that holds 55 other apartments. I like the location of our WG because it is very central and easy to get around the city. I am originally from Braunschweig in Niedersachsen. I enjoy living in a WG because there is always someone here and we often share similar interests. It is also great to get to know other people who can introduce you to something new. This is especially important when you move to a new city and do not really know what there is to do. Then someone in the WG can say 'Hier ist etwas cool, kommt mit!' ('Here is something cool, come with!')."
