While the harsh conditions in the Swiss mountains pose challenges for those living there, the mountains are the source of Switzerland's pristine drinking water. The Swiss have been innovative in encouraging people to recycle and reduce pollution so as not to ruin this precious natural resource.
Switzerland's main natural resource is water power which comes from the many glaciers that are found in the country. Glaciers are large and slow-moving blocks of ice usually created through the snow that gets mushed together and can be mainly found in mountains. The Swiss alps also are very important because a lot of the fresh water used in people's homes originated in the alps. One of the unique characteristics of Switzerland is that fresh water can be found everywhere! That is one of the many reasons why the Swiss people protect their environment so much, especially through recycling.
As previously mentioned, the Swiss glaciers, especially those found within the Swiss Alps, play a big role in providing all of the fresh water for the country. The running water is also utilized for power, as it is converted into electricity.
