Cafe Culture

Introduction:

Have you ever heard of a cat cafe? Or maybe a selfie cafe? These are some interesting themes for cafes that can be found all over Korea. There are so many cafes that business owners need to find new ways to make theirs enjoyable and encourage customers to come to their particular cafe. Soon, themed cafes became the norm. Today, cafes are a huge part of Korean life.

What tradition did I learn about?:

A traditional Korean cafe, also known as a tea house, is one of the most popular destinations, whether the customers are coworkers, people on a first date, or, as in my case, students. Going to the traditional tea house is a great place to partake in a traditional tea ceremony. This special ceremony features a large selection of cold and hot brewed teas, sweet and savory snacks, and a relaxing ambiance.

Why does the community have this tradition?:

Korean people appreciate interacting with each other in settings that allow them to eat or drink, whether they are gathering for a late-night drink at a Korean BBQ or a slice of cake at a cafe. Food and drinks are a very improtant part of Korean culture, and so cafes have become a crucialpart of everyday life.

Is this tradition connected to its environment? How?:

At every corner you pass, you can see a cafe. It might be a large sit-down cafe or a smaller on-the-go cafe.
