Navigating La Rioja

Introduction:

I grew up in Hesperia, California, which is a very small community located in the Mohave Desert. Access to public transportation in the desert is limited, and the landscape is very spread out, so walking from place to place is very challenging. Therefore, my family always uses a car. I never had much exposure to other modes of transportation until I traveled to Spain.

How do people get around?:

In Logroño, many people use public transportation or walk around the city. There are several red city buses that run from early in the morning until late at night.  One ride only costs 0.72 euros, which is about 75 cents. There are also green intercity buses that travel to nearby cities, and the cost depends on the distance of the trip. For example, to get from Logroño to a nearby city called Laguardia, it costs 1.90 euros which is about two U.S. dollars. I can even catch a bus from the main station in Logroño and head all the way to Madrid, which is a major city located about four hours south of La Rioja! A long trip like this costs about $30.00. The bus system here allows me to travel affordably and conveniently.

Although the bus system here in Logroño is simple to use, I usually prefer to walk around the lively city! It is very easy to walk from place to place. Walking allows me to explore more areas of the city.
