Traditional Food of Tarragona: What Would You Try First?

This dish is originally from Valencia, Spain, but it has spread to other parts of Spain, including Tarragona. Paella was originally a midday dish for farmers and farm laborers in Valencia. Workers would gather and use whatever they could find in the fields, such as tomatoes, onions and even snails. Rabbit or duck were popular additions, with chicken appearing less often. This dish has become incredibly popular, but at least here in Tarragona, it is more commonly prepared with chicken than with any other kind of meat.

Last and by far my favorite is the typical cafe con leche and croissant. Here in Tarragona, it is very popular to go out with your friends and family early in the morning and go to a local cafe to your morning to enjoy coffee accompanied by a croissant. This is a typical breakfat here in Tarragona.

How did I feel when I tried it?:

It was definitely interesting and exciting trying some of these foods, since this was my first time eating the bread with tomato dish and using a parrón to drink some wine. I have enjoyed every single food that I have tried here in Tarragona. At first, it felt weird to try the bread with tomato, because of the combination of having raw tomatoes and olive oil without any cooking involved. To me that we just a crazy combination, but after trying it, I fell in love with the flavors and now I can't stop eating them. I was more familiar with the paella and cafe con leche, but now they are my super favorites. In my culture at home we have a similar dish to the paella, arroz con pollo (rice with chicken), and the coffee is similar, too, so it was more a matter of tasting and comparing them.
